The UK NICE home-monitoring routine
Seven days, morning and evening, two readings at least one minute apart each time. The UK NICE routine leaves out the first day and averages the rest, systolic and diastolic separately. A range is not a diagnosis.
Do both readings taken a minute apart count?
Yes. Type both, one per line. Home-monitoring schedules commonly use two readings at least one minute apart, and both can be included in the average.
Why leave out the first day?
UK NICE guidance instructs people using its home-monitoring routine to discard the first day and average the remaining measurements. Leave the first-day readings out of this list.
Why is the home range lower than at the doctor's office?
Readings at home tend to run lower than in a clinic, so the European guideline starts hypertension at 135/85 at home and 140/90 at the doctor's office. The US option shows AHA/ACC blood pressure categories, not a separate home diagnostic table. Home diagnostic thresholds and treatment targets can differ. This page averages home readings.
